Manager, Business Consultants

Resp & Qualifications

PURPOSE:
Lead a high functioning team of internal business consultants or business relationship managers (BRMs) to develop and manage a portfolio of transformative initiatives critical to the organization's success.   Interface with business areas as a trusted advisor/partner and advocate of Information Technology capabilities and achieving business value. Provide consulting leadership for organizational leaders and other internal clients.  Facilitate and lead dialogue with leadership to inform and shape the  organization's strategy development.  Ensuring strategic initiatives are well managed and result in high value and high-quality outcomes.  Serve as liaison for various activities, as driven by the business, relative to supporting process efficiencies, creating operational scale, technology enhancements, and proactive support for strategic and product development initiatives. The Manager, Business Consultants is responsible for working with their leadership, business and key stakeholders to identify, analyze, and capture business value for each initiative while ensuring alignment with corporate strategy and IT road map. Has overall responsibility for service level decisions and management of support team. Provides strategic direction, coaches and mentors staff (direct & matrixed) which includes BRMs, BAs, consultants, project leaders and technical staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead a team of talented internal business consultants or BRMs responsible for managing and executing strategic initiatives.  Provide guidance, coaching, feedback to the team to ensure successful project delivery.  Own accountability for the quality and value of project deliverables from the business consulting team.  Communicate initiative status, recommendations, and outcomes to leadership.

  • Facilitate and lead a portfolio of strategic and transformative projects from inception to successful completion. Work with executive sponsor, strategic business consultants and applicable stakeholders to define the work--aligning on project scope, requirements, deadlines, and success measures.  Provide management and oversight throughout project execution and delivery. 

  • Within the strategic planning process, contribute to the identification of strategic initiatives.  Partner with the strategic planning and market research teams to ensure alignment of strategic initiatives to the enterprise strategy. 

  • Effectively build relationships and influence throughout the organization to get things done. Serve in a seasoned strategic advisory capacity to all levels of management. Maintain a deep understanding and stewardship of the organization’s purpose, vision, strategic objectives, and annual goals. Champion the business strategy throughout the organization.  Work with business owners to identify initiatives of strategic impact.

  • Lead the development and maturation of the team, including development of practices, standards, and repeatable processes. Provide management oversight of direct reports, including hiring, providing performance feedback, guiding professional development, and other administrative duties.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
This position manages people.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Level: Bachelor's Degree OR in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.

Experience:

  • 5 years progressive experience in one or more of the following:  corporate strategy and portfolio management, healthcare or financial consulting, medical affairs or market research with experience in leading executive-level strategic discussions.
  • 2 years supervisory or demonstrated progressive leadership experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or other advanced degree with demonstrated financial and business acumen, preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following disciplines: project management, communications, organizational change management, organizational design, systems thinking/engineering, business process reengineering, process improvement, customer experience, strategic planning.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Sophisticated approach to understanding strategic needs, financial/industry models, competitive trends and business impact.
  • Ability to lead high functioning teams.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and translate complex concepts into actionable insights.
  • Strategic agility, structured thinking, and intellectual curiosity.
  • Experience with performing research and analysis in a functional role, preparing presentation materials, and conveying analytical content.
  • Ability to comprehend and convey business impacts of market shifts.
  • Must be able to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands from internal and external customers, within set expectations for service excellence. Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service to every internal and external customer, including customers who may be demanding or otherwise challenging.
