PURPOSE:
The Community Health and Social Impact Senior Financial Analyst is responsible overseeing the financial management of CareFirst’s mission driven philanthropic investments that advance health equity and address the social determinants of health, especially the Departmental budget, charitable contributions budget, and donor advised funds. The Senior Financial Analyst will provide financial projection, budget analysis, forecasting needs, and support the overall investment strategy. The Analyst will offer quality, meaningful analyses, and financial perspectives necessary for executive decision making and strategic planning; provide critical and diverse data analysis and reporting to support CareFirst’s mission. The Analyst will also support the development of materials for Board of Directors meetings, Strategic Planning Committee meetings, and Executive Leadership Team meetings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Budgeting, Forecasting, and Financial Analysis. Prepares and manages the annual budget and multiyear forecast. Performs periodic budgeting and forecasting exercises, working closely with management team and corporate finance. Investigates variances between actuals and forecasts to understand trends and potential risks and opportunities. Acts as a “barometer,” having a sense for the issues taking place. Identifies and develops useful indicators, graphics, and other ways of summarizing financial activity to facilitate management and decision-making. Performs ad-hoc and routine analyses, accuracy, and reporting.
Payment Processing and Integrity. Supports the processing and administration of general and administrative expenses and charitable contributions through completion. Oversees grantmaking system payment practices and monitors donor advised fund activities. Reviews and verifies that financial reporting is complete and accurate.
Compliance and Process Improvement. Supports the development of standard operating procedures and controls to advance the company’s mission, as well as ensures compliance with corporate policies. Assists in the coordination of CHSI financial operations, vendor management, and compliance and reporting requirements. Monitors applicable laws and regulations, guidelines, or corporate policies to ensure compliance and reporting requirements are met. Leads process improvement initiatives to streamline deliverables. Supports the development, implementation, and routine updating of standard operating procedures. Supports periodic internal audits and aids in design and implementation of remedial/corrective solutions.
Analytics and Reporting. Gathers, compiles, and interprets information collected through financial analyses in order to identify trends and provide insight for decision making. Assesses return on community investments. Works closely and proactively with team to keep them well-informed of upcoming commitments and responsibilities, taking a managing-up approach. Prepares financial data for presentation to management through dashboarding, tables, etc.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Position does not have direct reports but is expected to assist in guiding and mentoring less experienced staff. May lead a team of matrixed resources.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Level: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, related field or technical training OR in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.
Experience: 5 years Experience in a finance, accounting or an analytical role within finance sector or quantitative analysis.
