Salesforce System Administrator

Resp & Qualifications

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:  Under the direction of Manager of Account Implementation and Stop Loss, the principle duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Serves as the system administrator and subject matter expert for the Salesforce instance and the associated applications.  Manages, configures and maintains Salesforce architecture, data, and applications. Performs system administrator tasks but not limited to: configuring and maintaining user interface and search configurations; set ups Chatter; sets up and manages users; manages security and data access; creates and maintains custom fields; maintains and insures data quality; manages data; creates, runs and/or modifies reports and dashboards; automates email administration, workflows and items as necessary; and manages support processes. Creates documentation to support management and maintenance of Salesforce and associated applications.

2. Provides ongoing support for technical system questions and problems.  Analyzes and researches system problems, coordinating with vendors, consultants/contractors and other parties as necessary in order to track them to resolution.  Develops, documents, and communicates alternative workarounds for system defects until system solutions can be implemented.  Provides assistance to developers and testers in order to resolve defects encountered during the development or testing process.  As needed, develops and executes test plans and documents test results.

3. Provides training on Salesforce, associated applications, processes and procedures. Educates system users and stakeholders of Salesforce capabilities and helps developers understand the business impact of technical decisions.

4.   Develops and maintains business and technical knowledge of Salesforce and associated applications through online training, classroom training, workshops, readings, reading, research and user groups.  Keeps abreast of current and new product benefits, corporate policies, Strategic Business Unit (SBU) and departmental goals and procedures. Understands emerging technologies and how they may be leveraged to SBU goals and objectives.

5.   Participates in work group meetings (i.e. process improvement, status meetings, etc.).

Position requires relevant work experience in systems analysis/design and 2+ years of direct systems analyst experience.

  • Advanced understanding of business processes related to systems support.  Recognized as a subject matter expert in all aspects of Salesforce/com.
  • Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience with current relevant technologies used in the development, implementation and support of software solutions.  Languages such as Apex, Html, Visual Forces Page, SQL \\ Tools SQL, Server, SQL Server db, and Data Loader.
  • Knowledge and experience with configuring alerts, dashboards and ad hoc reports.
  • Experience in modeling requirements using at least one or more of the following: State Diagrams, System Context Diagrams, User Interface Prototype, Activity Diagram, Workflow Diagrams, External Interface Diagrams Dataflow Diagrams.
  • Experience in developing and documenting processes, procedures for system usage and integration.
  • Experience creating system maintenance and training documentation.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills. Experience coaching/mentoring other associates as well as leading small teams and/work groups.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to spearhead resolution of problems and issues encountered during a project life cycle.
  • Strong understanding of project management best practices and methodologies.
  • Extensive PC software skills including Microsoft Office suite of products such as Word, Power Point, Excel, MS Project, etc.


  • Must be well organized, detailed oriented and possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must have strong analytical, problem solving and conceptual skills.
  • Must be a team player, use professional judgement, and support organizational and departmental goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and persuade customers, associates and management at all levels,
  • Excellent meeting facilitation skills and the ability to present technical information to internal clients at all levels and/or some external partners in a manner that is understandable.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in small teams is necessary.
  • Ability to effectively adapt to rapidly changing technology and apply it to business needs.
  • Ability to work with vendor(s) technical support staff and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.


  • Bachelor’s degree in in Information Technology, Computer Science or Business and relevant work experience in systems analysis/design.
  • Experience configuring and administering a Customer Relationship Management system.
  • Salesforce Administrator certification
  • Design and architect Salesforce experience a plus.
