POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of a project manager, the selected candidate will intern as a team member working with business processes, SDLC, SLAs, operations and production support management.  This position will provide the opportunity to learn and experience modern software development practices such as SAFe as well as an expanded view of project management covering the management of production issues including root cause analysis, intake of issues, tracking issues through development to resolution and finally through the production release process.   The selectee will work closely with experienced project managers, develoment managers and software engineers and will primarily focus on a single process which will benefit both the selectee and the CareFirst organization.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Candidate will be a project management team member working on full-lifecycle, scrum-team development tasks associated with the resolution of production issues
  • Candidate will experience the subtleties of dealing with outside vendors as well as real life scenarios of juggling the competing priorities of working with these vendors and the Federal Employee Director’s Office of Blue Cross Blue Shield.
  • Candidate will learn and gain familiarity with agile practices, tools and other technologies for tracking issues and shepherding issues through the overall process as well as managing in a development environment
  • Candidate will gain familiarity with the CareFirst organization and business

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Major in Technical Management or Process Management
  • Experience and interest in software development
  • Experience using tools such as Excel, Word, Power Point
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Positive attitude, self-starter mentality, and ability to be a team player
  • An interest in gaining real-world experience using modern project management and agile practices to manage projects, processes and initiatives involving teams of developers, also getting exposed to the environment used by these teams with some exposure to how the teams uitilize:
    • Open source Frameworks such as Spring MVC, Spring Batch, Spring Boot, Hibernate, MyBatis
    • UI frameworks such as JQuery, AJAX, and AngularJS
    • RESTful and SOAP web services
    • DevOps technologies, including Jenkins, Maven, Git
    • Automated testing, using Junit, Cucumber/Gherkin
    • AIX and WebSphere

     

The ideal candidate can work up to 15-20 hours in the fall and spring and up to 40 hours in the summer

The associate is primarily seated while performing the duties of the position.  Occasional walking or standing is required.  The hands are regularly used to write, type, key and handle or feel small controls and objects.  The associate must frequently talk and hear.  Weights up to 25 pounds are occasionally lifted.
