Diversified Benefits is a new department at CareFirst with a focus on providing Life, Disability, Accident, Critical Illness and Hospital Indemnity insurance coverage in addition to our current portfolio of medical and dental/vision products. 

Diversified Benefits is responsible for the initial rollout of these products as well as the on-going operational maintenance and sales. We have a lot of work to do to launch and shape this product line – from market research to understanding how to ingrate these products into our pre-sale and post-sale processes. You could be involved in researching how to launch new product features, competitive analyses, baselining current operational processes, marketing, contract generation, broker compensation, service standards, etc. You name it – we’re building it!

We’re looking for students who are interested in learning about new products and markets as well as developing their leadership and professional skills. It’s an exciting time to be at CareFirst!



  • Coordinates and conducts research and, from findings, develops appropriate recommendations and/or procedures.
    • Researches and analyzes industry and competitor trends.
    • Develops and documents processes and procedures in support of Diversified Benefits. 
    • Analyzes existing processes and future processes and makes recommendations for future state. 
    • Works with Key Stakeholders and supports the Diversified Benefits Operations Manager with the transition of operational activities to the appropriate business areas with the appropriate support (i.e. developing standard operating procedures, training materials, educational sessions, etc.).
  • Creates and maintains documentation that tracks progress; responsible for submitting status to internal stakeholders and external business partners.
    • Coordinates the collection of data from resources across the organization. 
    • Enters and retrieves data, analyzes data, ensures all data is subjected to quality reviews to ensure accuracy; uses data to identify problems and improve procedures.  
    • Creates and produces custom reports as requested. 
    • Monitors progress by tracking activity, resolving problems, and publishing progress reports.
    • Responsible for supporting the ongoing operational activities of the Diversified Benefits Operational team as assigned.
    • May serve as a business project manager on specific work streams or areas within the Diversified Benefits operations team. Establishes and publishes clear priorities among project activities. Coordinates team activities to meet project milestones.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required This position requires an individual working towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree in an accredited college or university.  Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.  We are looking for students seeking degrees in business, business administration, management, entrepreneurship, leadership, organizational change, and other related programs.

We are looking for students who can work up to 15 -20 hours during the academic year and 40 hours during the summer.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with and maintain effective working relationships with internal staff.
  • Attention to detail and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to synthesize information quickly and set priorities.
  • Strong organization skills and ability to manage multiple assignments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well-developed PC skills including Microsoft office software such as Excel, Word, OneNote, Visio and PowerPoint
  • An independent means of transportation. Local travel may be necessary.


  • Experience developing operating procedures and training materials
  • Project management experience or focused curriculum
