Resp & Qualifications

The Market Research department is part of Strategic Marketing and plays a critical role within CareFirst.  Market Research manages and conducts survey research, focus groups, in-depth interviews, and secondary analyses in order to uncover insights about CareFirst’s many different types of customers and to make recommendations to business units.  Market Research insights are used throughout the organization to make important business decisions.  Some areas that rely on Market Research include: Marketing, Strategic Business Units (SBUs), Sales, PCMH, Medical Networks, Operations, IT, Actuarial, creative agencies, and the CEO.


The intern is an integral member of the Market Research team located in Owings Mills.
CareFirst is looking for someone who is a fast learner, detail-oriented, able to analyze complex data, capable of distilling complicated ideas into a digestible format, and is a team player.  This position includes the following duties: 

  • Analyze survey data and respondent comments in Excel and Word
  • Write reports in Power Point or Word format
  • Clean and prepare data files using Excel
  • Check data in reports to ensure accuracy
  • Program surveys in the surveying tool Verint (training provided)
  • Attend meetings and offer ideas and suggestions
  • Provide assistance to Market Research Analysts



Must be a student enrolled in an accredited college or university at either the junior or senior level (undergraduate) or graduate level, with a 3.0 GPA or above


Majors – Mathematics, Statistics, Social Sciences, Marketing, Business or a related field

Must have excellent interpersonal, as well as written and verbal communication skills


Must have a strong math aptitude and be able to work with large data sets. 


Strong Analytical, problem solving and organizational skills are essential

Must be able to work independently to accomplish assigned tasks

Must have intermediate – advanced experience using Microsoft Office products, (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access) and the Internet


CareFirst is looking for someone who can commit to at least two days per week (up to 20 hours) during the spring and fall semesters; full-time is preferred in the summer.



  • Able to work full-time in the summer
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Have a desire/interest to work in the healthcare industry
