Resp & Qualifications

The Market Analytics department is part of Strategic Marketing and plays a critical role within CareFirst.  Market Analytics manages the collection and distribution of competitive intelligence, development and implementation of segmentation strategies, analysis and distribution of analytics for the website and social media, as well as many other tasks.  This work is used throughout the organization to inform and influence business decisions.  Some areas that rely on Market Analytics include: Marketing, Strategic Planning, Strategic Business Units (SBUs), Sales, Financial Planning, creative agencies, and the CEO.


The intern is an integral member of the Market Analytics team located in Owings Mills.
CareFirst is looking for someone who is a fast learner, detail-oriented, capable of distilling complicated ideas into a digestible format, and is a team player.  This position may include the following duties: 


  • Attend Marketing meetings to gain insights.
  • Utilize Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel to take large amounts of data and transform it into a reasonable format.
  • Assist in analyzing campaign effectiveness for email, digital, and social advertising.
  • Maintain databases of data over time.
  • Analyze market and segment competitors within the CareFirst service area (Maryland, DC, Northern Virginia).
  • Conduct consumer segmentation analyses to identify improvements for targeting and communicating to specific audiences.
  • Assist in adhoc projects that require problem-solving and analytical skills.


CareFirst is looking for someone who can commit to between 12 and 20 hours per week during the spring and/or fall semesters; full-time is preferred in the summer.  Continuing on for more than one semester will be based on performance and mutual interest between CareFirst and the intern.


  • Must be a student enrolled in an accredited college or university
  • Majors – Marketing, Business or Mathematics or direct related field
  • GPA 3.0 or above
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong Analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Must have a strong math aptitude and be able to work with large data sets
  • Must be able to work independently to accomplish assigned tasks
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word on at least an intermediate level
  • Strong research skills
