Resp & Qualifications

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Assist Accounts Payable department with processing invoices, researching uncashed payments, and pulling documentation for auditors.
  2. Assist Accounting Services department with day-to day activities, such as reissuing checks in a timely manner, retrieving remittances and EOBs, processing manual checks, address/name changes and voids.

  3. Assist Payroll department with account reconciliations and analysis. Assist with filing of quarterly and annual taxes and submissions of tax payments.         

This internship will provide an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment and participate in a variety of functions to obtain hands on experience relative to most organizations. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Required:  This position requires an individual working towards a bachelor’s  or masters degree in an accredited college or university.  Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.  We are looking for students seeking degrees in Accounting.

CareFirst runs a year round internship program.  The ideal candidate is someone who can work throughout the year – up to 15-20 hours in the fall AND  up to 15-20 hours in the spring AND full time in the summer.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to positively interface with and establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal staff and external clients.
  • Attention to detail and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi task and reprioritize work as necessary.
  • An independent means of transportation. Local travel may be necessary.
  • Demonstrated skills with various computer applications/software, particularly Microsoft Excel.  In addition, experience in Accounting ERP systems and/or HCM (Human Capital Management) systems are preferred.  We currently use Oracle ERP and PeopleSoft HCM.

The associate is primarily seated while performing the duties of the position.  Occasional walking or standing is required.  The hands are regularly used to write, type, key and handle or feel small controls and objects.  The associate must frequently talk and hear.  Weights up to 25 pounds are occasionally lifted.
