Associate Responsibility and Engagement Program Manager

Resp & Qualifications

PURPOSE: 

This position is responsible for overseeing the development and execution of strategic initiatives and programs to support the mission, image and goals of the Company through corporate social responsibility including community workforce partnerships, associate engagement in volunteer events/campaigns, environmental awareness and sustainability. The position will create the framework for CareFirst associates’ “shared responsibility” and promote internal engagement with these efforts.
 

This includes, but is not limited to these primary activities:

  • Developing and executing a strategic components of the company’s corporate social responsibility program that has discipline, focus and demonstrates CareFirst’s commitment to the community, the environment and responsible operations

  • Identifying Sustainability opportunities to reduce waste and lessen CareFirst’s ecological footprint.

  • In collaboration with Community Affairs and the Office of Diversity & Inclusion, identifying partnerships with other entities in the community that are strategically aligned with our corporate goals around recruiting diverse talent and increasing  targeted population segments

  • Launching internal marketing campaigns to build associate engagement with volunteer events—increasing tracking of volunteer hours tracked.

  • Promoting a message to all associates about our “Shared Responsibility” internally, developing and execute strategies to heighten environmental awareness among CareFirst associates including training on relevant trends in sustainability and corporate citizenship

  • Launching a Social Responsibility Task Force in each location

  • Operates with limited resources and takes actions with limited direction

  • Partnering across the enterprise, accomplishes goals through others without direct authority

 

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
 

Project Management

  • Leads enterprise-wide projects to increase associate engagement with social responsibility program
  • Implements strategy and tactics in each location
  • Collaborates with senior management to assess needs and recommends solutions
  • Presents innovative solutions to systemic issues surrounding sustainability and community partnerships

 

Associate Engagement

  • Maintains monthly calendar of volunteer events
  • Solicits CareFirst associates who are nonprofit board members to track volunteer hours
  • Creates protocol for and maintains database of skills-based volunteer opportunities for associates and solicits participation
  • In collaboration with the Office of Diversity & Inclusion leverages ARG members for volunteer events and community partnerships
  • Rallies executive and associate involvement in fundraising events, walks and marathons.
  • Drives accountability among other business leaders to adopt and participate in community involvement programs
  • He/she will focus on ways to build capacity and internal engagement involving associates in volunteering and environmental responsibility

 

Community Workforce Partnerships

  • Provides best practice research and support to Procurement on Supplier Diversity best practices and informs our policy and program
  • Leads in the development and negotiation of community partnerships with various civic and economic development organizations.
  • Assists human resources in identifying community workforce programs and leadership development opportunities.

 

Communications

  • Reviews and develop globally relevant guidelines and policies for corporate citizenship
  • In partnership with Community Affairs, Marketing & External Affairs, develops and maintains a positive corporate image across the various communities served by the company

 

Metrics and Analytics

  • Sets best-in-class organizational goals for the tracking and reporting of all associate engagement, sustainability, and more.
  • Uses quantitative and qualitative research to identify and create strategies, incorporating industry trends, community leader viewpoints and employee expectations
  • Identifies appropriate metrics; tracks and measures inputs, outputs and impacts of corporate citizenship and sustainability programs, analyzes and interprets data for internal and external reporting

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Required: A minimum of 3-5 years experience in a corprorate social responsibility field.  Demonstrated leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills, and experience managing a busy department.  Proven ability to work with senior management. Strong decision making skills with the ability to provide sound advice while working both independently and as a member of a team. Experience managing and mentoring staff is preferred but not required. understanding of environmental sustainability best practices and trends in the supply chain, supplier diversity strongly preferred

  • Strong Excel savvy for creating models and data-driven dashboards, including data visualization, as well as PowerPoint knowledge for effective presentations
  • Self starter with proven track record of working across departments on successful sustainability projects and initiatives
  • Exemplary critical-thinking skills, attention to detail and ability to perform tasks with a high degree of accuracy

Must be able to effectively work  in a fast paced environment with frequently changing priorities, deadlines,  and  workloads that can be variable  for long periods of time.  Must be able to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands  from internal and external customers, within set expectations for service excellence.   Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service to every internal and external customer, including customers who may be demanding or otherwise challenging.
 

Preferred:  Experience in the healthcare insurer or not-for -profit sector focusing on corporate social responsibility is preferred

The associate is primarily seated while performing the duties of the position.  Occasional walking or standing is required.  The hands are regularly used to write, type, key and handle or feel small controls and objects.  The associate must frequently talk and hear.  Weights up to 25 pounds are occasionally lifted.
