PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for performing various accounting functions requiring a thorough knowledge of the theory & practice of recording, classifying, and analyzing the data and records of financial transactions for the Prepaid/Fixed Asset system.  This position will also have responsibility for supporting all Corporate Initiative project financial data and results assigned to the incumbent. Responsibilities include the project forecasting, project planning, project monthly accruals and reporting support for the project teams.


PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1.   Prepares and reviews the Prepaid/Fixed Asset mass addition invoices created by Accounts Payable for CareFirst, Inc.  Analyzes and prepares the monthly close process for Prepaid/Fixed Assets for all CareFirst entities. 

2.   Provide weekly project reporting to all levels of Management for the Corporate Initiative projects.  Monitor financial variances between project forecast and approved funding.  Validation through financial data analyses, investigation, interpretation, and resolution of variances.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position has no supervisory responsibility.

SCOPE DATA: Responsible for maintaining accurate accounting for CareFirst, Inc. Fixed Asset and Prepaid expenditures of $1.5 billion, annual capital expenditures of $100 million and annual depreciation expense of $260 million.  Incumbent is also responsible for data integrity, monitoring, budgeting, reporting and financial analyses of the annual administrative and capital expenditures of $115 million for Corporate Initiatives.  This position interacts with Directors and Managers throughtout CareFirst, Inc. and with external clients as auditors and vendors.

Required: Position requires a BS in Accounting or Finance or equivalent technical training, and a minimum of 1-3 years of Accounting/Finance experience.  Additionally, this position requires thorough PC and mainframe skills and excellent analytical skills.  The ability to work both independently and as a member of a team, and the ability to practically apply technical accounting practices and concepts to moderately complex transactions beyond basic detailed rules and instructions.  Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) is also desired.

Abilities/Skills: This position requires strong analytical skills, excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), strong PC and financial systems, strong problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and as a team member, and ability to train team members.
Must be able to effectively work in a fast paced environment with frequently changing priorities, deadlines,  and  workloads that can be variable  for long periods of time.  Must be able to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands from internal and external customers, within set expectations for service excellence.   Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service to every internal and external customer, including customers who may be demanding or otherwise challenging.
