What you’ll do:

As a lead big data engineer, you will design and build cutting edge data solutions leveraging the Cloudera Big Data technology stack and other open source products. With minimal supervision, you will perform design and development activities, technical documentation, system performance support, and internal customer support. You will take complete technical ownership of a given project and provide guidance and support to other team members. You’ll work with Data Analysts, Solution Architects and other Data Engineers to design and implement robust data pipelines that solve important business problems.

Job duties breakdown:  

The incumbent’s accountabilities include, but are not limited to, the following:              

  • System Design and Implementation (70%):  Designs and Builds Big Data solutions to meet business requirements.  Assumes complete ownership of Delivery from Data Engineering stand point in given projects
  • Leadership (10%):  Assists other Developers in resolving complex issues. Performs code reviews and ensures that standards are followed consistently across projects  
  • Procedural (10%): Creates and maintains Coding standards, Design Documents, Production Run books
  • Research and Development (10%): Recommends and implements new technologies and solutions to benefit the business.

Skills you must have:

This position requires a BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology or related field with 10+ years of prior experience in software development, Data Engineering and Business Intelligence OR equivalent experience. Following are the some of the key skills that you must have.

  • Advanced Level experience ( 5+ years ) in Hadoop, Yarn, HDFS, MapReduce, Sqoop, Oozie , Hive, Spark and other related Big Data technologies
  • Experience tuning Hadoop/Spark/hive parameters for optimal performance
  • Advanced experience with SQL and at least one major RDBMS (Oracle, DB2 etc.)
  • Advanced experience with shell scripting
  • Prior experience guiding and mentoring developers in a technical lead capacity
  • Rigor in high code quality, automated testing, and other engineering best practices, ability to write reusable code components.

Skills nice to have:

  • Healthcare experience
  • Past experience with data warehouse/data analytics solutions and technologies, especially ETL tools such as Ab Initio, Informatica etc.
  • Cloudera Certified Developer
