Resp & Qualifications
PURPOSE: Provide the direction, guidance & leadership to the team of Product Owners who are leading the efforts of defining the Product Backlogs. This position is accountable for the success of the product(s). Lead Product Owner works directly with the with business owner/sponsor in defining the high level business requirements as per the established strategic roadmap.
Under the general direction of the FEP Technical Product Manager and/or FEP Technical Program Manager the incumbent's accountabilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Provide the direction, guidance & leadership to the team of Product Owners who are leading the efforts of defining the Product Backlogs. Lead Product Owner works directly with the with business owner/sponsor in defining the high level business requirements as per the established strategic roadmap. Engages the Product Owners, Architects and technical SMEs and other team members to discuss the technical feasibility of business asks and come up with high level solution. Works with the Product Owners and business owners to define the Epics and features for the products and add them to the Product Backlogs. Works with business owner to determine priority for the Epics and Features. Provide direction and support to Product Owners in defining the Minimal Viable Product (MVP) for the Epic and/or features.
Participates into the Product Backlog Refinement sessions with Product Owners and team. Provides guidance and necessary inputs from business perspective to the scrum teams during the grooming sessions. Product Owner assists with communicating the technical challenges/hurdles to business owner and help resolve the issues related to business. Follows the Agile playbook and process at the FEPOC to support agile delivery. Conducts the Release planning sessions with business owners to understand the business priorities for the upcoming release/iteration. Plan and conduct the release planning session with the internal scrums teams to share the business priorities for the upcoming release/iteration and share roadmap. Participates into daily scrum stand-ups as required/time permits, retrospectives, product demonstrations and other scrum ceremonies. Provides inputs to business owner in defining the strategic business roadmap to achieve the program vision.
2. Guides & coaches product owners and senior business analysts on how to determine the MVP of a product or feature. Mentors the team on how to break down the MVP into the User Stories and team for writing effective User Stories. Review the User Stories and provides constructive feedback to the product owners and/or business analysis. Provides inputs to the Scrum Masters on improvement opportunities with grooming sessions. Engages with business stake holders on need basis to educate, learn and provide input to support/improve Agile delivery. Provide input and champion Agile process improvement initiatives based on team/external feedback.
3. Support culture change to improve delivery agility. Support on boarding of the new members of the product owners and business analysts. Provide coaching to team members who are new to Scrum and Agile practices. Supporting Team building and Team development by utilizing the abilities and skills of individuals, and fostering a feedback culture.
This position requires minimal “on call” for emergency situations requiring immediate resolution. Travel between all CareFirst locations may be required. Travel between CareFirst locations and client offices may be required. This position is subject to a level 6C security requirement.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: The position has direct reports and requires leadership, people management and soft skills like communication, inter-personal etc. It requires close co-ordination and collaboration involving the Product Owners, client, Business Analysts, Architects & technical SMEs.
QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business, or Engineering or equivalent work experience required. Overall 8-10+ years of IT and business experience in planning, Business Analysis, System Analysis, Technical design/development, implementation, and maintenance of systems, preferably across multiple hardware and software platforms. Previous Product Owner experience (5 plus years) in a dynamic high-technology environment is a key to success in this position.
