Agile Coach

Resp & Qualifications


Under the direction of Senior Management accountable for Agile Process, the Agile Coach’s accountabilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Champion enterprise-wide agile adoption and continued improvement across the organization. Comfortable working at all levels (team, stakeholder, and organizational leadership) to help the organization use Agile as a strategic asset for culture change and business value generation. Work with peers and Management to define and refine the enterprise agile vision, drive the organization-wide agile adoption strategy and rollout plans. Develop, implement and manage team metrics, evaluate team metrics and make recommendations to teams and management for improvements. Capture feedback and continuously improve enterprise agile practices, training materials, and content. Identify, capture and mitigate organization impediments that impact the team such as organizational structure; physical office layout, hiring practices, career paths, training and development, compensation, rewards and recognition, leadership, etc.
2. Provide Agile coaching to teams on all aspects of Agile, with a strong focus on Scrum, Kanban and other agile practices adopted by the organization. This includes working in a hands-on manner with the teams as well as in a consultant model, helping the teams leverage Agile and its ceremonies, roles, and artifacts to reach greater success. Improve results of software development projects in terms of predictability of delivery, productivity improvement, schedule and delivery of commitments, and quality. Coach teams and management towards improving agile process and metrics, evaluate and mentor existing scrum teams, and deliver training classes for product owners, developers and testers. Support and guide efforts to bring disclosure and transparency with the business teams, and grow business trust. Identify levels of conflict in a group and surface conflict in a positive manner to improve team’s performance and best possible solutions to challenges.
3. Organize workshops and presentations that help promote agile maturity across the organization. Conduct training which includes, but is not limited to, the areas of release planning, backlog grooming, story writing, roles and responsibilities, as well as the ceremonies of Scrum, Kanban and technical best-practices.
4. Identify characteristics of a high performing team and to help the team assess their performance and identify areas for improvement; foster a self-organizing team including; facilitative leadership, defining team norms, facilitating the appropriate type of decision making, and allowing leadership and roles to emerge. Embrace servant leadership and display the behaviors that come with the key mindset shifts associated with agile methods.



  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in IT, a minimum 6years of work experience in the use of Agile methodologies and supporting tools
  • 3+ years of work experience in an agility training / coaching role with exposure to large organizational transformations
  • Relevant Certifications
  • Expert in lean/Agile practices and one or more knowledge domains (i.e. technical, business, organizational) while having developed skill in facilitation, mentoring, training and/or professional coaching.
  • Solid background utilizing an agile framework (e.g. Scrum, Extreme Programming, Kanban, SAFe) in software development.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills, coaching and mentorship experience.
  • Solid oral, written, and presentation skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills are required.
  • Able to work with individuals and teams across all levels within the organization
  • Experience with independently transitioning teams to a variation of agile process and mindset in the past, as well as prior experience coaching and mentoring software teams on several agile process transitions.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring junior staff and leadership
  • Experience in creating Agile training / workshop material
  • Able to handle conflict resolution well, facilitating discussion and alternatives of different approaches
  • Ability to know when and how to engage leadership in solving organizational impediments.
  • Knowledge of one or more models for how teams develop over time, including the attributes, stages and factors leading to increased cohesion, camaraderie and team performance.


  • Expert in lean/Agile practices and one or more knowledge domains (i.e. technical, business, organizational) while having developed skill in facilitation, mentoring, training and/or professional coaching.


  • Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM I  II, CSP)
  •  Agile Certified Practitioner (ACP) or SAFe SPC.
