CareFirst is looking for an accomplished in-house counsel to join its Washington, DC or Baltimore, MD office. The successful candidate will be able to provide a complete range of counseling and legal services related to the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program and other federal contracting and licensing issues. CareFirst seeks a highly motivated attorney able to partner with and support a fast-moving business team in all aspects of their federal business. The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This individual may supervise Paralegals/Legal Assistants and Legal Secretaries and/or Administrative Assistants.
Required: Admission to the MD or DC Bar within one year of hire date. Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.) is required, with at least 8 years’ experience as an attorney required and at least 3 years’ experience as a lawyer representing clients in health care, insurance, health related technology, information technology, government contracting, or related field.
Abilities/Skills: This position demands strong analytical, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills. This individual must have the ability to follow instructions, to be flexible/versatile, and to work independently. Must be able to effectively work in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities, deadlines, and workloads that can be variable for long periods of time. Must be able to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands from internal and external customers, within set expectations for service excellence. Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service to every internal and external customer, including customers who may be demanding or otherwise challenging. Experience and knowledge in the areas to be supported is essential.
Preferred: Demonstrated expertise in advising clients in a complex regulatory environment. Demonstrated leadership within a legal department or organization.
