Tax Analyst

Resp & Qualifications

PURPOSE:  Individual is responsible for all aspects of tax compliance and has support responsibilities for tax research and planning. Individual is responsible for performing more routine and fundamental tax functions.

The Corporate Tax Analyst is responsible for performing moderately complex tax research and analyses and problem resolution.

Under the general supervision of the Director of Tax, the positions accountabilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Prepare federal and separate company state income tax returns, including: preparing federal return supporting documentation, prepares personal property, and misc. state or local tax returns. Research of tax issues and recommends tax planning alternatives when appropriate.
  2. Completion of monthly Tax Model ensuring current and deferred provision is being accurately calculated. Prepares quarterly and annual tax accrual calculation within the time frames agreed upon with outside auditors; coordinates with corporate finance staff and subsidiaries/affiliates to ensure accurate reporting of information.
  3. Monitors Fixed Asset system processing to ensure that current year information has been accurately updated; works with IT Fixed Assets to ensure the tax information is complete.
  4. Completes 990s CareFirst PAC, coordinating with Community Relations for gathering of information and SBP VEBA, coordinating with Treasury on trust statements.
  5. Works with Senior for internal and external tax audits.


Required: Position requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent technical training, and a minimum of 2 years of tax reporting experience. 

Abilities/ Skills: Strong communication skills (both written and verbal), strong analytical and problem solving skills, an in-depth knowledge of tax laws, PC skills using a financial spreadsheet package (Excel) and the ability to work independently, apply theories, principles, concepts, and practices to difficult problems and make daily decisions concerning the proper course of action.  Experience with FastTax tax software a plus.

Preferred: CPA certification, knowledge of insurance industry, post graduate or additional credentials.
