Senior Individual Broker Representative

Resp & Qualifications

This position reports to the Consumer Government Programs Broker Sales Manager and is accountable for increasing enrollment, converting to, and retaining Over 65 business. The candidate is responsible for managing strategies that support all distribution channels to build market share in the CareFirst operating area for Over 65 Individual Medicare products and individual dental.   .  Serves as liaison between CareFirst and principal contracted brokers for marketing and service/enrollment issues related to products targeting the Consumer Government Programs market,. Cultivates strong relationships with brokers through educating, motivating, and maximizing all opportunities in acquiring competitors’ business. Ensures accurate and timely completion of member enrollment and correct processing and payment of broker commissions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Establishes, develops and maintains business relationships with current and prospective brokers in the Consumer Direct market segment to generate new business and retain current business, ensuring market growth goals are achieved. Executes the target sales plan through the development and implementation of sales and service strategies.  Remains current on all legislative changes and regulation updates including ACA changes that impact the consumer direct segment and effectively communicates to brokers to ensure consistent information dissemination.  Works directly with executive level contacts within assigned block of business to review production levels and develop strategies to increase sales
  2. Serves as Consumer Direct product expert to the Consumer Direct Broker Representative staff and maintains an in-depth knowledge of Consumer Direct ACA compliant products, Over 65 products, , as well as previously offered medically underwritten products. Resolves globally sensitive, complex, and/or high priority issues and problems impacting the sales process as it relates to broker submitted business by investigating problems, developing solutions, and making recommendations to management  Coordinates, tracks and manages global enrollment and service issues to resolution. 
  3. Identifies broker training needs including products, eligibility, and enrollment processes and coordinates with Sales/Support Product Manager to develop training documentation to be used. Responsible for  leading broker rep team in instructing brokers and their staff on the use of reports provided by CareFirst to assist the broker with managing their business. Works with the Director of Broker Services and the Marketing Communications department to coordinate Broker Flashes.  Works with the Director of Broker Services and the V.P. of Consumer Direct Sales to coordinate the annual Broker Forum.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  The position requires a Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years sales experience or equivalent; 3-5 years sales experience in Medigap/Medicare is preferred with a thorough understanding of broker/administrator system,  and proficiency   in sales motivation, compensation, knowledge of current issues in the health insurance industry. CareFirst system specific experience preferred. Must have 3-5 years sales experience with a proven track record. Excellent presentation negotiation and influencing skills required, and the ability to interface with all levels of prospects and internal associates is essential.

The candidate must have the ability to independently and effectively manage a team of brokers through strong leadership and decision-making skills.  Excellent presentation, negotiation, and influencing skills required. Strong analytical, problem solving, communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of prospects and internal associates. Must have experience generating sales leads and developing external relationships to increase market value for the segment.   PC skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are necessary.  In addition, the ability to interpret reports and train others to use the reports is critical.

Must be able to effectively work in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities, deadlines, and workloads that can be variable for long periods of time.  Must be able to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands from internal and external customers, within set expectations for service excellence.  Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service to every internal and external customer, including customers who may be demanding or otherwise challenging

A thorough knowledge of corporate and department goal and policies, company products and operations are required, as well as decision-making and problem-solving skills

Significant travel required, including travel out of state. Must have a valid driver’s license and transportation to travel throughout service area.   The ability to work some evenings and weekends is required.

Must maintain a valid Health and Life insurance license for all jurisdictions in which CareFirst, Inc. operates.
