Compensation Manager

PURPOSE: The Compensation Manager is responsible for the design, communication, administration and compliance of corporate compensation programs.  The Compensation Manager is responsible for job analysis & evaluations, market pricing, salary survey submission, annual salary review and bonus planning process, and other compensation projects to support the company

Under the general direction of the Director, Compensation & HRIS, the incumbent's accountabilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Manage the design, development, communication, administration, processing and compliance of corporate compensation programs.  Included in this function are, but not limited to, base salary administration, annual merit program, corporate incentive plans, sales compensation plans and productivity pay. Oversee design and development of the sales incentive plans and programs. Evaluate effectiveness of the sales incentive plans and processes and initiate changes to increase efficiency and reduce complexity.

Develop and revise Compensation policies and procedures. Remain current and maintain an understanding of compensation practices, applicable laws and regulations, assessing and communicating their potential impact.

Analyze, compile, research, and validates data to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of analytics.  Presents, displays, and calculates various statistics displaying analysis results.  Design and prepare reports to support various compensation analyses. Lead system related projects throughout the planning, development, configuration, testing, implementation and change management of new or modified systems/ tools. Work with the HRIS team on the maintenance and improvement of PeopleSoft eCompensation module including the configuration of the module, reporting, user testing and system efficiency. Ensures data integrity and accuracy of compensation information within PeopleSoft through periodic reviews and audits.

Provide day-to-day management support to HR Compensation staff.  Support the HR division in division-wide projects and programs.  Acts as HR representative on certain Company committees and task forces requiring management representation.  Performs other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position supervises 5 professional staff.


Required: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in human resources management, business, or other relevant field. A total of 8-10 years of relevant Human Resources experience with a minimum of 5 years direct experience in compensation administration and a minimum of 3 years management experience.  Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification preferred. Able to  research and analyze data from a variety of sources to maximize interpretation , present data and recommend appropriate courses of action.

Required  Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills, the ability to exercise technical and functional supervision over senior level professional associates. The ability to collaborate and build consensus across various HR departments. 

Strong verbal,  written communication and project management skills with the ability to articulate complex topics and interact with all levels of management and associates. Ability to articulate and forecast how compensation practices will impact various business areas.

Experience in system related projects/upgrades/maintenance including the ability to manage design and implementation of new or modified  systems/ tools.

Strong qualitative and analytical skills and the ability to evaluate results.  The ability to make sound discretionary decisions. Advanced Excel skills, strong analytical, project management and program development skills.  Proficiency with HRIS data management preferably in PeopleSoft.

Preferred: Prior insurance and/or health industry experience.  Experience with sales and/or executive compensation programs. Master's Degree. PeopleSoft HCM v9.1 or higher.  Experience with a HCM system upgrade.
