Duties and Responsibilities
Verification of general ledger data through development and maintenance of monthly reconciliations/analyses of reported activity to source and/or supporting documentation. Process includes:
Special projects, as necessary. Will include application of accounting and research techniques toward resolution of outstanding material issues or the implementation of new processes. Advanced analyses and trending of financial information are performed to verify the integrity of data in the financial statements. Interpretation of contractual arrangements and designing the appropriate transactional accounting flow.
Review of existing and new business arrangements and processes with a critical and discerning approach in order to design the appropriate accounting and related processes. This design includes the recommendation of efficient and cost effective methods and processes while maintaining an environment with sound accounting controls. Use of technology to enhance speed and cost effectiveness is required.
Preparation of monthly journal entries including the compilation of related supporting documentation (transactional or analytical) in a timely manner to meet divisional goals and deadlines. This process requires a thorough understanding of the activity to be recorded as well as proficient analysis of the underlying supporting data ensuring that activity is accurately and correctly recorded.
Strengthen departmental effectiveness through cross-training, documentation of procedures and assistance in responding to audit requests. Assistance and guidance to less experienced staff.
Position requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant field and a minimum of 3-6 years of accounting experience, which must include experience in development and maintenance of financial reconciliations and related schedules. Must be able to coordinate multiple competing priorities. Additionally, incumbent must have proven superior analytical and problem solving skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment. A thorough understanding of GAAP is required. Experience in the health care industry is helpful and accounting certification (CPA) is preferred. PC skills should include a functional knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word. Some IBM main frame experience is a plus. Familiarity with Microsoft Access and Oracle financial systems is preferable.
