Graphic Designer

The Federal Employee Program® Operations Center (FEPOCSM) is seeking a graphic designer with strong skills in presentation design, brand identity, marketing and communications collateral, digital and web communications media, and data visualization.

 

The FEPOC is a leading provider of technology solutions and services for the Federal Employee Program®, which provides health insurance to 5.4 million federal employees, retirees and their families on behalf of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) and 36 independent Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) companies.

 

This position will work collaboratively with the Strategic Communications team and various stakeholders to execute on a variety of projects including PowerPoint presentations, brand development, conference creative, digital newsletters, reports, landing pages or microsites, animations and information graphics that communicate the FEPOC story and engage customers through visual story-telling and compelling print and digital media.

 

The candidate should have the ability to communicate a brand, product or project through clean, impactful design. Must be able to translate content into a storyboard to ensure presentations convey the intent of the content and work collaboratively with writers and editors.

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Creative Strategy

  • Work closely with communications team members to understand business drivers and needs.
  • Understand and interpret creative briefs and/or client needs to establish a design direction that can be pitched to senior team members and ultimately to clients.
  • Take high-level creative direction and think strategically when developing visual solutions.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills and good judgment.
  • Proactively liaise with multiple cross-functional groups and customers to develop visual communication strategies.
  • Present visual concepts to clients and stakeholders and be an advocate for the brand.

 

Production and Design

  • Utilize skills in layout, typography, data visualization, color, and illustration to design and execute impactful communications and marketing products and designs in a variety of program applications.
  • Work with print vendors and be able to prepare and submit high-resolution files correctly. Attend press checks as needed and ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Work with digital vendors and deliver properly specified and prepared files and formats.
  • Build branded templates that are easy-to-use by clients and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate effectively with brand and design colleagues and provide guidance as needed.

 

Design Research, Planning and Administration

  • Gather and study information and materials needed to establish design direction.
  • Understand target audience to deliver the best visual solution for the audience needs.
  • Build deep knowledge of the FEPOC story and our technology solutions and services.
  • Provide training and coaching as necessary to team members and colleagues.
  • Stay current on industry trends and best practices.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in design, arts, communication, marketing or related filed and a minimum 5-8 years of experience as a visual or graphic designer.
  • Proven design skills in marketing/brand materials and information visualization; portfolio required.
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft PowerPoint, and general skill in other Microsoft Office applications. Print and digital experience.
  • Capable of working in a fast, fluid environment with changing priorities and competing deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to take a project from ideation to completion.
  • Customer focus and collaborative work ethic.
  • Strong communications skills.
  • Deadline-oriented.
  • Handles rejection with growth mind-set.
  • Experience collaborating with a UX/UI team and knowledge of best practices in design for web/digital.
  • Ability to coach and mentor junior colleagues.
  • Experience with identity design and brand standards development strongly preferred.
  • Experience with animation preferred, photography and video a plus.
