Manager, Infrastructure Engineering

Resp & Qualifications

PURPOSE: The incumbent provides leadership and management surrounding technology support issues, tasks, projects, and procedures.  Oversee the work and operations of the team members to ensure efficiency and gauge quality of work. In addition, manages systems to include but not limited to SCCM, VMware and MDM.  Understands the Windows desktop images standards, deployment methods, and techniques for the virtual desktop infrastructure.  The individual will be responsible for overseeing the automation of system procedures and processes to evolve the technology in the organization.  Contributes to knowledge base for troubleshooting and maintaining the virtual and physical desktop environment.    May contributes to on-call escalation support 24x7.  Coordinates schedules for night/weekend work as required due to environmental constraints.  Works with Infrastructure Engineering team to ensure compliance with Information Security policies and procedures. Interfaces with vendors to ensure appropriate resolution during system outages or periods of reduced performance. 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Under the direction of the Director, Client Technology Services the incumbent’s accountabilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Provide informed leadership regarding software and system issues (compatibility, specifications, content, etc.)

Computer architecture analysis and design, and analog or digital systems engineering.  Plans and directs upgrades of operating systems and designs system enhancements. Develops documentation on new or existing systems.  Develops and directs tests to ensure systems meets documented user requirements.  Identifies, analyzes, and resolves system problems. Determines system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.  Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.  Manage Windows Server 2016 servers which support the SCCM environment as well as maintain/administer the SCCM environment. Creates and deploy PowerShell scripts to automate software installation and system configuration. Leverages SCCM to deploy and monitor software and manage inventory. Create software and hardware reports using various systems management tools. 

Understand and use tools vSphere, RDP, SCCM remote control, Active Directory tools, vendor hardware management tools.

Understands firmware, driver, software, and operating system updates.  Familiar with Intune mobile device settings for Windows 10 and BYOD mobile devices.  Oversees the management of the centralized iGel solution. 

Manages/oversees processes for Tier 3 support for problem resolution and service requests.  

Advanced knowledge of subject matter to be able to Interface with team members on an ongoing basis to ensure installed systems and applications are performing as required and meets the business objectives of CareFirst Cloud Engineering and Operations.  Must possess the skills to work with the less experienced Systems Engineers in interfacing with our internal and external customers.                                                                                                                                                                    

Creation of detailed project plans in support of assigned larger projects related to desktop functions.  Takes the leadership role for the team's assigned projects.

Assists the Principal Architectural Engineer in the evaluation and integration of complex, emerging server, network based and imaging technology, which aligns with business strategy and initiatives for internal as well as external customers. Expand technical and business knowledge through reading, research, on-the-job training, and classroom training.                                                                       
This position is also subject to being "on call" for emergency situations requiring immediate resolution.
This position is subject to a Level 6C security requirement which includes but is not limited to, information confidentiality, HIPPA, Sarbanes Oxley and code of conduct policies.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Manages and leads a team of exempt IT professionals, Infrastructure Engineers.  Also serves as project leader for strategic corporate initiatives. 

Required:  College Degree or equivalent work experience.  3-5 years progressive leadership plus 5+ years overall related work experience.  Candidate must have extensive experience in Windows Operating System Platform, Citrix, Unified Communications, Imaging, Exchange, Active Directory and group policy.  Candidate must have extensive experience and clear understanding of enterprise backup and restore technology.   Complex understanding and experience with interoperability between Windows and network architecture issues.  Candidate must have extensive experience in server problem resolution and tuning.
Extensive knowledge in Storage Technologies.
Extensive Knowledge in virtualization technology (VMware) to include Virtual desktops.
Must have extensive knowledge in Microsoft Operating systems, and Linux and Citrix.

Abilities/Skills:  Must be able to produce detailed, accurate technical documentation.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills should include ability to read analyze and interpret technical procedures.  Ability to write reports, correspondence and procedures.
Very good organizational, interpersonal, analytical and presentation skills
Self-motivated, adaptable to change and able to function effectively in a team environment
Must be able to prioritize and manage time effectively as well as function with no supervision, under tight deadlines, and demonstrate initiative in problem solving
Project management skills
Ability to work independently and do research, test and document new software and hardware in support of CareFirst, for service request, project assignments and corporate initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:
MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) certification and two or more of the following certifications based on primary responsibility or related work experience:
MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer)
MCSA (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer)
MCITP (Microsoft Certified IT Professional)
Microsoft Administrator Associate
VCP (VMware Certified Professional)
Strong MS BackOffice application experience (SMS, SQL, etc.).                               
Lenovo, HP, iGel and Thin Client hardware experience
In depth knowledge of VMware Virtual center\ESX
Scripting Knowledge, with the ability to create scripts for server management & support
