Accounting Technician III (Accounts Payable Department)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the Supervisor the incumbent is responsible for, but are not limited to, the following:

  Review and process approved payment requests in accordance with corporate and governmental policies which result in proper and timely payment for goods and services.  Invoices and expense statements are reviewed for business appropriateness, management approval, general ledger coding, taxes, and terms.  

  Review travel expenses and analyze costs for hotel and meal expenses to ensure proper application and coding for expenses that exceed the federally governed per diem rates. 

Provide research, analysis and resolution of issues related to assigned vendors and all levels of associates, and work closely with the Procurement department related to PO’s, contracts, and travel expenses.  Also support all internal and external audits, and respond accurately and timely to all audit related requests.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Required:  Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 5 or more years of Accounting Operations experience.

Incumbent must possess excellent analytical skills, PC skills using Excel and Accounts Payable financial systems, good verbal and written communication skills, along with excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently and as a team member.   The ability to apply technical accounting practices and concepts to moderately complex transactions beyond basic application of detailed rules and instructions.

Must be able to effectively work  in a fast paced environment with frequently changing priorities, deadlines,  and  workloads that can be variable  for long periods of time.  Must be able to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands  from internal and external customers, within set expectations for service excellence.   Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service to every internal and external customer, including customers who may be demanding or otherwise challenging.

Preferred:  Knowledge of Oracle Accounts Payable Software,  familiarity with Federal Per Diems,
familiarity with Sales and Use tax laws.

SUMMARY:   Incumbent will be responsible for reviewing and processing approved payment requests in accordance with corporate and governmental policies which result in proper and timely payments for goods and services.  Validate General Ledger account coding to ensure accurate expense recording and proper governmental compliance (i.e. Federal per diems).  Provide customer service to vendors and associates in order to process payments accurately and timely and work to achieve a high level of service excellence.  Perform additional functions as required, including assisting team members with daily processing when necessary, determining proper application of sales and use tax and recording the transactions in the Oracle AP system, and assisting with Federal Per Diem analysis travel related to the Federal Employee Program..

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee is primarily seated while performing the duties of the position.  Occasional walking or standing is required.  The hands are regularly used to write, type, key and handle or feel small controls and objects.  The employee must frequently talk and hear. Weights of up to 25 pounds are occasionally lifted.
