Wellness Consultant - Gaffney, South Carolina

Location:  Gaffney, SC

Full Time, 40 Hours Per Week


As a Wellness Consultant within CareFirst, serving as a Health Coach for our client, Nestle, you will develop worksite wellness programs and tools to impact the health population at your assigned worksite.  You will implement, coordinate and facilitate activities and projects related to the CareFirst workplace wellness portfolio that integrates CareFirst’s products and care management strategies helping our group improve the health and culture of their employee population. Additionally, you will facilitate Nestle specific program offerings within the CareFirst solution as well as vendor partner solutions.


Development of an annual operating plan and communications plan against designated timelines that are designed to improve the health and culture of the employee population.

Design, develop, promote, coordinate, facilitate, and measure targeted wellness programs for multi-site locations.

Engage members in health coaching through short touchpoints to more intensive full coaching sessions that utilize motivational interviewing and SMART action plans.

Creates motivation and engagement strategies in support of all wellness and clinical services to drive results around engagement and positive health outcomes.

Review client environment and initiate improvements to impact overall health, i.e. healthy cafeteria, non-smoking, and walking areas.

Work in collaboration with third party vendors to coordinate and execute programs and services that can add value as a component of the overall workplace wellness strategy.

Develop and coordinate health observance program, program health content/presentation,  monthly calendars and communication and marketing pieces.

Partners with internal and external key stake holders to integrate, administer & support developed programs and corporate strategies related to health & wellness.

Works closely with data team to evaluate the results of established programs and produces credible ROI data that can be utilized to create benchmarks, recommend best practices, effectively market products and improve results for group. 

Monitor and report out on metrics and scorecard outcomes.

Manage wellness budget to maximize participation and engagement in wellness activities.

Coordinates disease prevention and healthy lifestyles-related activities and/or information during and after account implementation.

Develop and lead wellness champion committee.

Interact daily with client and employees and serves as ongoing liaison and subject matter expert.

Presents to internal and external stakeholders on program opportunities, impact and recommendations.

Supports Account Executives with data and information relevant to key account wellness activities. Lead special projects and initiatives.


Possess three to five years of experience in the development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of health & productivity initiatives aimed toward improving the health status of external company employees while reducing medical and lost time costs for the employer.

Have a working knowledge of current and emerging healthcare trends and health behavior/education principles and communication methods.


Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in workplace health promotion, health behavior/health education, public health, healthcare administration, exercise/nutrition science, or related field

Preferred: Master’s Degree


  • Excellent verbal and written skills, including proven experience in the development of presentations and proposals
  • Self-starter
  • Proven experience in delivering executive level presentations
  • Project management skills in health care or health insurance industry
  • Critical thinking and sound judgment
  • Analytical skills to evaluate and interpret data and draw conclusions
  • Initiative and ability to work independently and with others in a team
  • Ability to positively interface with internal staff and external clients
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and timelines
  • Demonstrated proficiency with various computer applications/software, particularly those related to the development of presentations
