We’re working on “the big picture” of the future of health care information technology, and what we do touches the lives of millions of people.  Today, we're looking for a Lead Performance Test Engineer will be responsible for creating, maintaining, modifying, and managing CareFirst’s application and infrastructure monitoring solutions testing scripts, administering and managing the performance monitoring and testing tools.

This Engineer must be able to communicate effectively in collaboration with the systems and development teams to troubleshoot performance and scalability issues. May provide coaching and mentoring to less experienced team members, and/or review their work for accuracy and quality of performance.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Under the direct supervision of the manager, the associate’s accountabilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Develops deep technical expertise on Application Performance Management (APM) products and CareFirst application stacks and uses those skills to address performance related issues as required.
  • Designs, builds, and manages tool integrations.
  • Assists with the build of highly available and scalable infrastructure with appropriate monitoring and alerting mechanisms in place.
  • Engineers solutions and establish standards for infrastructure, agent deployments, including optimizations and tunings per requirements.
  • Identifies and implements opportunities for use of automation and process change to improve performance and reduce errors.
  • Implements and integrates technologies for APM usage in Cloud IaaS and PaaS models.
  • Provides guidance for application/operational teams to setup policies, alerts, dashboards, and custom configuration to get full visibility into their entire environment.
  • Assists Business and Technology owners with the development and reporting of Service Level Agreements (SLAs), Operating Level Agreements (OLAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for their applications and technologies. Participates and provides leadership with implementation of performance testing processes, benchmarks and methodologies.
  • Provides leadership with incident, problem management and root cause analysis.
  • Identifies APM technology and tool gaps and opportunities. Develops strategies and proposals to remediate gaps and leverage opportunities for continuous improvements.
  • Implements and integrates technologies for APM usage in Cloud IaaS and PaaS models.
  • Provides guidance for application/operational teams to setup policies, alerts, dashboards, and custom configuration to get full visibility into their entire environment.
  • Initiate participate and lead project work groups (internal and external peer reviews, status meetings, Software Process Improvement, JAD session, System Architecture Reviews, etc.).  Give training and directions as necessary to staff.
  • Provides coaching and mentoring to less experienced team members within any of the technical or administrative tasks across the enterprise.

  • Strong influencing, negotiation, and problem-solving skills with an ability to identify problems/gaps, assess the requirements to address, and get buy-in to implement solutions.
  • Strong analytical and research skills. Should be well organized and detail oriented as well as possessing excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in small teams is necessary as, must work overtime when necessary and be able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Individual must demonstrate initiative, work well independently as well as a contributing member of a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required for composing and delivering technical presentations or other forms of documentation to various level of technical and non-technical management.

BASIC QUALIFICATION:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in a technical discipline (i.e., Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Science, etc.) or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in a technical discipline, 5 of which must be focused on application performance monitoring and site reliability management.
  • ITIL Foundations (or higher) Certification
  • 2+ years of experience with problem and performance management of current database technologies such as SQL Server, Oracle, or Postgres.
  • Proven proficiency with monitoring of large scale J2EE Applications (WebLogic, JBoss, Tomcat) .Net and database applications
  • Solid systems administration understanding (Unix, Linux, Windows)
  • Experience in one of the scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, PHP, Perl)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in the healthcare industry
  • Experience with AWS, Azure or GOOGLE Cloud technologies
  • Experience with ServiceNow, Dynatrace
