CareFirst is a leader in the healthcare industry serving over 3 million Members.  As part of the Office of the CEO, Healthworx’s functions encompass corporate venture, corporate development, commercialization, and innovation for CareFirst. Within these functions, the commercialization team is tasked with the development of new businesses to solve unmet needs. The goal of these new businesses is to solve important challenges in the healthcare ecosystem while diversifying CareFirst and Healthworx’s portfolio of solutions and creating exposure to new markets.
As part of Healthworx’s commercialization process, when a concept has achieved sufficient evidence related to desirability, viability, and feasibility, a dedicated Product Team is established to pursue the opportunity. The Product Team operates as an “internal startup” working towards clear success metrics which, if achieved, provide the evidence and rationale to launch a new product or business. At that inflection point, members of the Product Team typically become part of that new venture
Today, Healthworx has launched a Product Team for a new technology and service platform designed to support working caregivers. Healthworx is seeking an experienced entrepreneur or proven business executive to lead the Lantern team as the Product Manager. The Product Manager should be an individual who can wear multiple hats and have the capacity to operate autonomously within a dynamic work environment that may ask team members to dive into unfamiliar territory. An ideal Product Manager would bring empathy and passion to address the needs of caregivers, drive to scale a new healthcare business, and the skillet to become part of the leadership team for the new venture, should the Product Team be successful.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Reporting to the Healthworx Director of Commercialization:

• The Product Manager is responsible for setting and executing on the vision, strategy, and objectives of a Healthworx Product Team
• The Product Manager is responsible driving the business and product roadmaps with a focus on long-term strategy, market dynamics, and new opportunities
• The Product Manager’s operational responsibilities include:
o Coordinating all Product Team staff in partnership with the Product Owner
o Identifying market needs and opportunities
o Developing the product business case and value proposition
o Representing the expert view of the product and customer
o Developing and maintaining the product vision and roadmap
o Identifying and securing strategic partnerships
o Developing the product pricing model
o Working closely with sales and marketing to secure customers
o Supporting the solution delivery team
o Maintaining the budget
• The Product Manager should bring the experience needed to both operate the Product Team in the short-term and, if the Product Team achieves the milestones needed to “spin out” into a new business, become the potential future CEO or COO of that new business
• The Product Manager is responsible for the Product Team’s progress and achievement of key milestones including go/no-go stage gates

QUALIFICATIONS:
(Required)
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a business leadership or product leadership role including but not limited to:
o CEO, COO, or CPO of an early or growth-stage business
o Product Manager, Product Owner, or Product Marketing Manager of a new or innovative product
• Minimum BS in a business, product, or healthcare-related field and some form of graduate education (i.e. MBA, MHA, MS, etc.)
• Experience cross-functionally working with technical, design, marketing, and sales teams
• Proven ability to translate market dynamics and customer needs into business and product strategies
• Experience representing the voice of the customer/user and translating that voice into the product vision and roadmap
• Experience forming and fostering strategic relationships, including sales and sales channel relationships, with executive leadership at other organizations
• Independent thinker and self-starter who can make decisions strategically and creatively to drive tactical execution and motivate productivity without constant supervision
• Capacity to wear multiple hats daily and operate with humility alongside team members in different Product Team functions
• Independent thinker and self-starter who can make decisions strategically and creatively to drive tactical execution and motivate productivity without constant supervision
• Willingness to bring a “doer” not a “moderator” mentality to the Product Team

(Preferred)

• Additional graduate education (MBA, MHA, other Master’s degree, PhD) in a business or health-related discipline
• Experience executing the sale or IPO of a business in which the candidate held a leadership role
• Experience with healthcare regulation and policy
• Proven, high-performing track record in positions of responsibility for business plan development and execution
Must be able to effectively work in a dynamic environment with frequently evolving priorities and manage high volume workloads efficiently to accomplish commercialization goals.  Must be able to anticipate and plan for risks and challenges associated with pursuing new business opportunities and the evolving requirements of the venture as it progresses through phases of implementation, validation, and scale.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The associate is primarily seated while performing the duties of the position.  Occasional walking or standing is required.  The hands are regularly used to write, type, key and handle or feel small controls and objects.  The associate must frequently talk and hear.  Weights up to 25 pounds are occasionally lifted.
