Lead Financial Accountant

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES include, but are not limited, to:

Duties and Responsibilities:

Review of complex existing and new business arrangements and processes with a critical and discerning approach in order to design the appropriate accounting and related processes.  This design includes the implementation of efficient and cost-effective methods and processes while maintaining an environment with sound accounting controls.  Proficient use of technology to enhance speed and cost effectiveness is required.

Special projects, as necessary. Will include application of accounting and research techniques toward resolution of outstanding material issues.  Complex analyses and trending of financial information are performed to verify the integrity of data in the financial statements.  Independent interpretation of complex contractual arrangements and designing the related transaction accounting flow.

Verification of general ledger data through development and maintenance of monthly reconciliations/analyses of reported activity to source and/or supporting documentation.

Process includes:

  • The independent resolution of all outstanding issues through research and analysis as well as the design and implementation of corrective control measures – procedural or transactional.
  • Application of analytical accounting software tools and techniques for compiling, integrating and analyzing data, including trending analyses.
  • Effecting required change using sophisticated techniques and/or skills for engaging other areas to provide resources and assistance.
  • Providing timely and informative information regarding the status of reconciliations and related projects to management.

Preparation of monthly journal entries including relevant supporting transactional or analytical documentation, in a timely manner to meet divisional goals and deadlines.  Recognition (through analysis of transactional activity) of required journal entries necessitated by the application of current accounting standards.

Strengthen departmental effectiveness through cross-training, documentation of procedures and assistance in responding to audit requests.  Mentoring and training of less experienced staff.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant field
  • Minimum of 6+ years of accounting experience, which must include experience in development and maintenance of financial reconciliations and related schedules
  • An extensive understanding of GAAP is required.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be able to coordinate multiple priorities. 
  • Must have proven superior analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
  • PC skills should include a functional knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word. Some IBM main frame experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Access and Oracle financial systems is preferable.

Preferred:

  • Experience in the health care industry is helpful and accounting certification (CPA) is preferred.
