Payroll Supervisor

This position is directly responsible for the management of full-service payroll function. Ensures that all payroll activities are performed in accordance with company policies and compliance with Federal and State regulations. Provides guidance, oversight and facilitates day to day operations of the Payroll team. The position provides analytical expertise for the payroll processing system as well as participating in design and implementation of payroll and benefits enhancements.


Responsible for the functional applications within the system to reflect accurate and timely processing of biweekly, weekly and off-cycle payrolls. Maintains the integrity of Payroll data and the system. Directs and reviews the audit of payroll process to comply with internal control requirements. Responsible for testing and implementation of all payroll, tax and time & labor bundles. Responsible for design, testing, implementation and upgrade of all system enhancements and future system conversions. Represents payroll in discussions and analysis of all payroll implementations between IT, HR and Finance. Develops, documents and communicates alternative workarounds to resolve system problems.

Supervises and facilitates the day-to-day administration of the payroll unit that includes: Ultimately responsible for the distribution of all payroll and payroll taxes (payroll for seven companies, tax payments for Federal and State withholdings and Federal and State unemployment taxes). Design and document internal process and workflows. Directs the Payroll staff to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing. Acts as a payroll coordinator to provide all documentation for internal and external auditors. Coordinates all payroll related activities with other departments. Provides research to stay in compliance with Federal and State regulations.

Initiate and accurately perform the following payroll processes. Run and update all special month end, quarter end & year end pay cycles for adjustments. Coordinate the balancing, printing and release of the W2's. Lead the successful completion of annual CAD, AIP, OE and PTO Purchase cash out pay cycles. Coordinate and lead the Payroll tax reporting function and tax impact of payroll transactions.

Supervises staff of 2 employees.


Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business or related field, or equivalent education and/or experience.


  • 3 years of progressively responsible payroll experience which includes a minimum of 1 year of experience supervising a payroll team.
  • Highly proficient with Payroll software (i.e., Peoplesoft, Oracle) and MS Office applications including Outlook.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential including understanding of GL account reconciliations.
  • Proven communication skills (both written and verbal) and technical skills are must.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to plan/assign, and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Driven to work with associates, HR and payroll team on a daily basis in pursuit of resolving payroll issues in timely and professional manner.
  • Must be able to effectively work in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities, deadlines, and workloads that can be variable.


  • Experience with Oracle Cloud or Peoplesoft is preferred

The associate is primarily seated while performing the duties of the position.  Occasional walking or standing is required.  The hands are regularly used to write, type, key and handle or feel small controls and objects.  The associate must frequently talk and hear.  Weights up to 25 pounds are occasionally lifted.
